The beginning
By Liz Mathews
"It's a big time for us. This is the beginning, really. You have many beginnings in a sequence like this and this is one of the real important ones," said Coach Carroll today after practice.
The newly vamped team gathered at the VMAC today for a single practice before an off-day tomorrow. Due to regular season press policies, the media is no longer able to report the happenings on the field and tweeting, photography and filming are also now limited.
Speaking to the radical changes made over the weekend, Carroll explained: "The whole idea is to make this team as competitive as possible and we needed to do the things that we did." Carroll said the plan with the new guys now is "getting them into the fold, getting them with us, and really focusing on the guys that'll do all the playing this weekend."
Similar to what GM John Schneider said earlier today, the weekend felt a lot like the draft for Carroll, who was quick to reiterate that he and Schneider saw eye to eye on every one of moves made by the organization.
"We had our sights set on some guys and went after it very aggressively," said Carroll. "We worked the whole weekend to try to come up with the decisions to make this possible. We could have sat back on it and I think John (Schneider) and I both would have regretted if the opportunity passed."
"I think we've really helped our football team and made it known what we're all about as far as in this locker room. These guys know that we're going to keep battling to make this team as good as we can make it as soon as we can. That’s the message we'll send."
Regarding the lineup, Carroll did name Justin Forsett the starting running back but said that does not necessarily mean that he will carry the ball any more than the other guys. Julius Jones remains on the roster and team had no comment regarding his reported contract restructuring.
Carroll also stated that Mike Gibson will start at left guard and Tyler Polumbus and Chester Pitts will compete to get the start at left tackle. No other starters were named as of today.
The Seahawks have the day off tomorrow, and will practice Wednesday and Thursday at 1:30 and Friday at 11:30am.
