The Golden Ruel
By Liz Mathews
The Seahawks have hired Golden "Pat" Ruel to replace Alex Gibbs as offensive line coach.
Ruel had spent the last five seasons with Pete Carroll as USC's offensive line coach but was not retained on the staff by Lane Kiffin. Ruel had planned to coach the UFL's Omaha Nighthawks in the upcoming season.
Ruel, once a guard for the Miami Dolphins, has previous NFL experience, having coached the offensive line for the Detroit Lions, Green Bay Packers, Buffalo Bills and New York Giants.
Before entering the NFL, from 1978 to 1981, Ruel coached at Washington State University where he was named the offensive coordinator for his final two years.
Coach Ruel's given name is Golden.
