Forever Young

Great Book Alert

I just finished my new favorite book. It is long, but engaging from the first page.

In A Discovery of Witches there are four kinds of people: humans, witches, daemons and vampires. A group of scholars at Oxford find a book that's a thousand years old and it just might hold the key to the origin of all the species.

It's a mystery and a great love story filled with adventure and the greatest theme of all: the fight for true love.

    Support an independent book store.
Or at least Barnes and Noble. Their online prices are competetive with Amazon. When was the last time Amazon brought an author for an event to your neighborhood school, library, etc. Never. Sorry for the rant, but thanks for talking about books. Nobody seems to these days unless it's Harry Potter, Twilight or the Hunger games.

Just put a hold on the Audio Book and Large Print at my Library
TIP: Usually Large Print books have fewer holds. Also put hold on New York Diaries 1609-2009, and Tom Perotta's The Leftovers; both of which I heard about on NPR Fresh Air.

    I loved this book!
however, it took me about 100 pages to get into it. The ending is well worth it and it is, wait for it, the first in a trilogy! Awesome.

    Another Good Book
I just finished reading I am the Messenger by Markus Zusak (I think that's how it's spelled - same guy who wrote The Book Thief). Very suspenseful, interesting book about an underage cabdriver who stops a robbery and then starts getting mysterious messages directing him to intervene in the lives of various people in his hometown. He has to figure out how and why, and sometimes, who. It's a very quick read. I will put this one on my list along with Jen's last recommendation (Ready Player One).
