The Seahawks can't afford to settle at quarterback

O'Neil told "Brock and Salk" that signing Peyton Manning wouldn't derail the Seahawks' attempt to find a more long-term quarterback, what other teams he thinks would make sense for Manning, and more.

The gloves came off when Danny O'Neil joined "Brock and Salk" for a discussion on the Seahawks' options at quarterback.

O'Neil, who covers the team for The Seattle Times, disagreed with Salk's contention that the Seahawks should identify their guy and do whatever it takes to acquire him. In O'Neil's view, the team should make value a priority.

Salk defended his point in Tuesday's Wrap Up video.

the one we all really want isn't going to be there b/c he will be peyton's replacement. draft DeCastro or Martin from stanford plug them in and let the BEAST carry you to the promised land enough said. Why draft a Guard or Tackle? Well because simply T Jack can feed off the running game and the play action pass simple enough, and the last time we have an extremly talented line they made Hasselbeck a pro bowler with mediocore stats.... just saying....

Can you and Brock stop talking Seahawks QB's??? I mean come one, I love the hawks and want them to draft or get a franchise QB but spring training is here. I know Brock probably gets uncomfortable talking anything but football but come on Salk rise up and kick Brock in the knees and tell him that baseball is here and it's time to talk some Mariners!!!

most people think the mariners will lose 90+ games again. and nothing besides montero is really new with this team. kevin millwood and carlos guillen is nothing to get excited about. keep up the hawk talk until after the draft.

You can't make a franchise QB appear out of thin air,yhea i'm down with trying to get Manning, getting maybe the best QB ever and not having to give up anything but cash, no brainer. Would i trade my whole draft for Andrew Luck probably, if we re-sign all our top Free Agents our only real area of need is a DE who's got a speed pass rush to replace Raheem Brock. We could already have that guy in Nebraska DE Pierre Allen. Would i trade up for RG3, Sure but will the Rams trade with Seattle so we can improve in there division, not likely. My opinion was we blew it last year when i was telling anyone who would listen to draft Dalton at 25, but guy's like flyingv1983 got another lineman, yhea yhea i know linemen are important, but like i said its not easy to find franchise QB's, so you gotta take them when they are sitting there. By the way i'm endorsing Nick Foles in the 3rd round.

,,,why do you want a pass first Qb? You don't! I agree, target the guy you want but be realistic about what kind of guy you want. I am the capatain of positional redundency. The next guy up should be able to do what the first guy up can do. Seneca Wallace could not do what Hasselback could do. Belichek might believe Mallet can be more like Brady than Hoyer. The Colts just proved the point last year. Are there any Peyton clones around? NOPE! Move on from that one then or just admit you have a latent Al Davis personality and just win now baby.

There's only a few options at QB every year, but seriously, Seattle is a 7-9 team right now and that's mostly because the defense and run game drug the rest of the team along throughout the year.... Tjack had his moments but lets be honest, he's got a ceiling... he's still bottom 3rd of the NFL as far as QB's go... I would love to see Seattle for once, identify the guy they want and do whatever it takes to get him... we have a young talented team... with a young talented QB... we would be in line to contend for a championship for the next 4-5 years... don't miss the opportunity and don't squander the talent you have on the team with a mediocre QB... get the real deal and do what it takes to get him.

IMO, the hawks can't get to #1 to take Luck, nor should they try. The Rams probably won't trade to Seattle so they could take RG3, and the cost may be too high anyway. Flynn will probably sign elswhere and Manning I don't think is leaving Indy. I say, throw all avalible cash at Mario Williams, if he's not franchised, trade the 1st rounder this year for a 1st and 3rd next year, and throw any and all availible draft picks needed next year to get Matt Barkley. I think he's going to turn out better than RG3 in the long run.

They hid a fourth surgery and a bone spur pending 5th one on deck. It may even be a genetic issue according to some (roto). Too much money on the line and to much risk to even get a straight answer now without a genetic consult and or examination of Eli et al..

Brock Huard

Brock Huard has co-hosted "Brock and Salk" since 2009. After earning Gatorade Player of the Year honors at Puyallup High School, Brock went on to a record-setting career at Washington and then spent six years in the NFL, including four with the Seahawks. Brock has also spent five years with ESPN working as a college football analyst in the booth and the studio. Brock makes his home on the Eastside with his wife Molly and their three young children.

Mike Salk

Mike Salk is the host of "Brock and Salk" on 710 ESPN Seattle and "SportsCenter Saturday with Mike Salk" on the ESPN Radio Network. He is also the regular fill-in host for the "Doug Gottlieb Show," also on ESPN Radio. Born and raised in Boston, Salk is a graduate of Pomona College (Go Sagehens!) and also lived in Los Angeles. He has been at 710 ESPN Seattle since its launch in 2009 and lives in Phinney Ridge with his wife Heather, daughter Avery and their french bulldog Wendell.
