TUKWILA, Wash. (AP) - The Seattle Sounders have signed defender Marc Burch after selecting the veteran in the MLS re-entry draft in December.

The Sounders announced the signing on Tuesday. Terms of Burch's deal were not released.

Burch spent the past five seasons with D.C. United and started 11 games in 2011. He was originally drafted by Los Angeles and was later traded during the 2006 season to Columbus, where he briefly played for current Seattle coach Sigi Schmid. Burch was sent to D.C. United in 2007.

The 27-year-old Burch is likely to compete for a spot as an outside defender on Seattle's back line.

The Sounders are set in the middle with Jeff Parke and Jhon Kennedy Hurtado but need depth on the defensive wings.
