TUKWILA, Wash. (AP) - The Seattle Sounders FC have transferred midfielder Erik Friberg back to his native Sweden and top flight club Malmo FF.
The Sounders announced the move on Monday. General manager Adrian Hanauer says Friberg is starting a family and wanted to be closer to home.
Friberg spent one season in Seattle and started 23 regular season matches. He had one goal and two assists in his one year with the Sounders.
Before coming to Seattle, the Goteborg, Sweden, native played for BK Hacken and Vastra Frolunda IF. Friberg will be joining what has historically been the top club in Sweden, with Malmo winning 19 Swedish titles.
