SEATTLE (AP) - Seattle Storm guard Sue Bird has undergone surgery to repair the labrum in her right hip.

The surgery took place on Tuesday morning at the Steadman Clinic in Vail, Colo. Dr. Marc J. Philippon performed the surgery and said Bird should be able to return to playing by mid- to-late December.

Bird will remain at the clinic through the weekend and start rehab immediately.

Bird said last week after the Storm lost to the Phoenix Mercury in the first round of the WNBA playoffs that the hip had been bothering her during the season.

Bird finished the season with a team-high 14.7 points and 4.9 assists per game.
